South Sydney Rabbitohs five-eighth Cody Walker and his future at Heffron Park is beginning to become uncertain.
Walker and the club are currently working through a deal to see him finish his career at the Rabbitohs following his NRL debut in 2016, but hesitancy to sign on the dotted line has reportedly emerged.
There seems to be some friction between both parties agreeing on a deal so far, with News Corp revealing an offer sitting between $300,000 and $400,000 is all Souths can budge.
With Payne Haas arriving on big coin next season, while also housing superstar players in Latrell Mitchell and skipper Cameron Murray, there is little wiggle room for the club to offer Walker a higher deal.
There are reported incentive clauses littered throughout Walker's new 12-month offer, including bonuses for games won with him on the paddock, inflating his earnings to $450,000 if he can tick the boxes.
News Corp is also reporting Walker has told those close to him during a Jai Arrow tribute function he is unsure whether he'll be at the club next season.
With Walker yet to accept the deal, it is being revealed that Super League clubs are monitoring his situation and have offers waiting for him to make the switch to the Northern Hemisphere.
Although it is unclear at this stage whether rival NRL clubs have tabled the 36-year-old playmaker an offer for 2027.
It's no secret that Walker is worth more than a few hundred thousand, and on his day is one of the best attacking players in the competition.
Even as he is getting older, he is still dominating the stats sheets, sitting third in try assists, second in line break assists and first in line break involvements for 2026.
With 247 NRL games to his name, the Rabbitohs are a much better side with Walker on the park, and it would be a great shame if his last moments in the cardinal and myrtle were being aided off the field with a calf injury in Week 1 of the finals.
With Haas joining the side next year, the club is building towards a major premiership threat, and it would be critical to have Walker alongside rookie half Ashton Ward to help him steer the side around.
