Former NRL player and media personality Bryan Fletcher was rushed to hospital following concerning and intense stomach pain during his radio show on Monday afternoon.
Fletcher is a regular figure on SEN's The Run Home and left suddenly during his Monday program after he began to feel unwell, heading straight to hospital.
In a concerning series of events, Fletcher vomited intensely in the emergency room in front of a fellow SEN employee, who drove him through red lights to receive medical help as soon as possible.
As a result, Fletcher suffered from kidney stones passing through him.
The former NSW forward returned to air on Tuesday afternoon to fill in listeners on what had occurred 24 hours earlier.
“The pain was literally like turning on a light switch, and I went, ‘Oh geez, that's not great' and then it just got progressively worse,” Fletcher said via SEN.
“I just told Alex to floor it. I was forcing him to get through red lights. I think it shocked him a little bit because then I threw up everywhere in the emergency room – and when I say throw up, it was like projectile.
“They wouldn't let me drink because I was parched. They said, ‘No, we can't let you drink because we may need to operate on you'. After copious amounts of fentanyl that didn't work, they took me in for a CT scan and said I've got kidney stones.
“They gave me a suppository that I had to administer myself. I was stuck in this little room to myself, and they gave me the little bullet (suppository) and then bang I put it in, and I was as good as gold.
“About 11pm that night, two little rocks popped out.”
Fletcher has become a fan favourite among the NRL community for his comedic on-screen antics with Nathan Hindmarsh, with the duo appearing on Fox League's Late Night with Matty Johns program.
He spent a ten-year career in rugby league starting in 1997, with stints at arch-rivals Sydney Roosters and South Sydney Rabbitohs before heading to England to play for Wigan.
Famously, Fletcher was behind the 'hand grenade' try celebration for the NSW Blues in 2000 and represented the sky blue 14 times.
In addition to his state honours, Fletcher also represented Australia on 13 occasions during his 225-game first-grade career.
