Adam Reynolds has moved to shut down speculation of a rift with Brisbane Broncos coach Michael Maguire, insisting there is “no rift” between the pair.
There has been plenty of drama and noise surrounding Red Hill in recent days, with Reynolds and his relationship with Maguire at the centre of attention.
The veteran halfback was unable to take part in what was expected to be his farewell game after being ruled out with a niggling calf injury.
With the Broncos out of finals contention, questions were raised over why Reynolds was not given the opportunity to take the field for even a short stint, with criticism directed towards Maguire.
Reynolds later clarified that the decision was his own, but speculation surrounding his relationship with Maguire continued.
The Broncos also found themselves under fire on Thursday night after an awkward moment during Reynolds' lap of honour at Suncorp Stadium.
Rather than showing a video tribute to the departing halfback, a Kia giveaway activation was taking place, with a loudspeaker announcing the competition winner as Reynolds made his way around the field.
The Broncos subsequently apologised for the interruption.
Reynolds has now addressed the speculation himself, taking to his Instagram Story on Saturday to make it clear there is no bad blood between himself and Maguire.
“I missed the opportunity to thank my teammates, my family, everyone at the Rabbitohs, and the many coaches and people who have played such a big part in my career. I'll have plenty of time to thank all of those people properly in the days and weeks to come.
“I also want to make one thing clear - Madge and I are all good.
“There's no rift between us, and I don't want that narrative being created. I wouldn't be where I am today or have had the career I've had without Madge and the impact he's had on me.
“I've got an enormous amount of respect for him as a coach and, more importantly, as a person. We've built a friendship over the years that will go well beyond footy.
“Nothing but respect and gratitude from my end.”
Despite bringing his playing career to a close, Reynolds is expected to remain within the Broncos' four walls next season in a halves coaching role.
His continued presence at the club would see him work closely with Maguire and the Broncos' emerging playmakers as he begins the next chapter of his career.
