Oh I love this sport!
Two days ago I put together a landing destinations for Dominic Young. Yesterday is was David Fifita. Today it is Sandon Smith.
All three players who have contracts beyond this year. All three players I swore teams were building their futures around.
Ok, so today's news. Sandon Smith, the man who was previously most likely to join Sam Walker in the tri-colours for many years to come.
News has broken that he is being shopped. We'll take the news at face value. Of course, we all know what is really coming.
The worst-kept secret in rugby league may even have been confirmed before this drops, but for now, we focus on Smith.
Below are FIVE potential landing destinations for Sandon Smith:
The Raiders shocked the NRL community by allowing Jamal Fogarty to exit the club at the end of 2025.
I know there were options but it never felt as though Canberra were all in on their number seven.
Ethan Sanders looks a real talent but he's untested at the NRL level and that is a really inexperienced halves pairing.
I know Sandon Smith isn't a 100 NRL gamer either, but at least he's had experience running a side around at the top level with some regularity.
Sanders, Smith and Strange looks a deadly halves trio. How you manage that, well Ricky Stuart gets paid the big bucks for a reason.
I wasn't going to link him to the Raiders originally but the fact they look to be running with three NRL level hookers next year makes me think there's a plan.
Having three NRL-ready halves is certainly a huge advantage.
Whether or not Smith would move from a similar and familiar position to Canberra is another question.
