Halfback is the most important position in the NRL. I don't think anyone can dispute that statement.
We saw how drastically the Sharks' performances improved with the arrival of a class halfback. Meanwhile, those sides struggling to find a star number seven very rarely play finals footy.
Luckily for fans, there seems to be a plethora of talented number sevens in the game right now. Ranking them was very, very difficult and I'm sure will be met with nothing but positivity in the comments.
As with other lists, this is based purely on 2022. It's not necessarily the best players in this position overall.
To qualify a player must have played halfback more often than not. There will be one technical exception as we saw with the five-eights.
3. Mitchell Moses
I thought Mitch Moses had a monster 2021 season, and a few brilliant seasons prior, but this was the year he silenced any remaining doubters.
His seven tries, 23 try assists, 18 line break assists, 430 metres kicked per game, 21 forced dropouts and 70 run metres per game played a huge part in the Eels Grand Final run.
Despite being targeted heavily by opposition forwards he managed to complete almost 83% of his tackles in 2022. His defence is really underappreciated.
The Eels have been searching for that premiership-winning number seven for a very long time now. In Moses, they have a player capable of finally being that number seven. If not for an all-time great Panthers outfit, he'd probably have already achieved that.
