Halfback is the most important position in the NRL. I don't think anyone can dispute that statement.
We saw how drastically the Sharks' performances improved with the arrival of a class halfback. Meanwhile, those sides struggling to find a star number seven very rarely play finals footy.
Luckily for fans, there seems to be a plethora of talented number sevens in the game right now. Ranking them was very, very difficult and I'm sure will be met with nothing but positivity in the comments.
As with other lists, this is based purely on 2022. It's not necessarily the best players in this position overall.
To qualify a player must have played halfback more often than not. There will be one technical exception as we saw with the five-eights.
1. Nicho Hynes
As good as others on this list were in 2022, no one got close to the consistent, match-winning performances of the Sharks number seven, Nicho Hynes.
He completely turned a bog-average Sharks outfit into an attacking juggernaut and dragged the club to a second-place finish.
Here are his 2022 stats: Six tries, 83 goals, 21 forced dropouts, 377 metres kicked per game, a club-topping 117 metres run per game, a 93% tackle efficiency, 29 line break assists and 21 try assists.
Dally M night saw him produce an all time record points tally. This is a guy who produced an A++ season without the all star spine many others on here have as a suppporting cast.
There's always one person who argues even the most obvious of statements. With the greatest of respects, that one personal would be categorically wrong to disagree with Nicho's number one spot here though!
