South Sydney one of many clubs interested in Gagai

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pursuing the signature of Newcastle Knights star centre Dane Gagai for next season.

The Australian is reporting that the Rabbitohs, along with a host of other clubs, have expressed interest in the Queensland Origin centre and hope to steal him away from the Hunter region.

The Rabbitohs see Gagai as someone who could add a lot of firepower to their backline and the Knights will face a battle to retain him.

Gagai is off contract at the end of the season but does have an option in his favour to remain in Newcastle for 2018. He has until the end of the month to exercise the option.

A decision by Gagai on his future could be made as early as next week.
