The NRL era is approaching three decades old, having kicked off in 1998 after the bitter Super League war drew to a close.

In that time, every club bar the two expansion franchises have won a premiership or featured in a grand final, and while some have had more success than others, every club will note some excellent signings over the journey.

Pulling back the curtain on those signings, here are the players we mark as the best for each club.

South Sydney Rabbitohs - Sam Burgess

The Rabbitohs are another club full of one-club stars at the top of the pecking order. John Sutton is the all-time games holder with 336, Alex Johnston, Adam Reynolds, Cody Walker and Nathan Merritt are all NRL-era one-club players with more than 200 games.

The two in contention here are Sam Burgess and Damien Cook.

While there is no doubt of what Cook provided the Rabbitohs over 207 games, it's hard to go past Burgess. Maybe the best Englishman to ever play in Australia, his performance in the premiership drought breaker was incredible, playing through a facial injury.

He and his brothers added plenty, but Burgess was the leader of the pack at South Sydney for 182 games across two stints.

    • Why? Sure hes helped change the culture but the dogs haven’t looked close to winning a comp unlike with other guys mentioned. I think Critta is one of their best signings but he needs a grand final before he gets put in the same category as those mentioned here. I also doubt they’ll go close this year until they settle on a 7.
