While their mediocre start to the 2025 season may not seem like much, the Sydney Roosters are in a prime position to dominate the NRL for the next few years, if they play their cards right.
With elite young gun Sam Walker at the club long-term, a war chest to spend on another star, and plenty of Dally M-calibre players on the market, the Roosters simply need to pick their poison.
There is no doubt that for the Roosters to be successful, Sam Walker needs to steer the ship.
With superstar playmakers Lachlan Galvin and Daly Cherry-Evans looking for new clubs and rising guns Hugo Savala and Sandon Smith already in the system, the club needs to make a call on its direction for the next decade.
1. Who should partner Sam Walker in the halves?
Sam Walker is one of the most talented players in the NRL on his day, and if the club can bring in a guy like Daly Cherry-Evans to nurture his game in the lead-up to his prime years, they'd be silly not to do so.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Walker discussed how honoured he would be to play alongside the veteran halfback, if given the opportunity.
“I think I know I can adapt to other footballers and like I said …. you never, ever turn your back on one of Queensland's great footballers to come to our club,” Walker said.
“It's obviously something that would be really exciting and something that us as a club would welcome with open arms."
This would also allow the Roosters more time to decide between the likes of Hugo Savala and Sandon Smith as the long-term option to pair alongside Walker.
While the prospect of Lachlan Galvin at the club would make for must-see TV, the box office appeal would not result in the success many would expect.
If the Sydney Roosters want to set themselves up for both short-term and long-term success, signing DCE to a two-year deal should be a no-brainer.
