The Brisbane Broncos should come into the 2026 NRL season as one of the most settled squads, having taken out the premiership last season.

But ‘should' is the operative word in this instance.

With youngsters banging the door down, a key injury, and veterans heading towards the end of their careers with fitness questions lingering, there are still plenty of big issues for Michael Maguire as he looks to create his own dynasty at Red Hill.

Here are the big selection questions which will shape the pre-season at the Broncos.

Adam Reynolds' injury issues

The reason Hunt or Walters (once he returns) may need to shuffle into the six or seven ultimately comes down to Adam Reynolds being closer to the end of his career than the start of it.

While there is no doubt that Michael Maguire will start 2026 with Ezra Mam and Adam Reynolds as his halves combination, the depth in the spine is a worry for Brisbane.

Reynolds did manage 22 games in 2025, but has not played every game of a season since 2021, never doing it in Brisbane.

There are obvious concerns around his hamstrings, but at the back end of his career - potentially his final season - there is more to it than that.

Coby Black's release to the Canberra Raiders, and Jock Madden's departure to the Wests Tigers, as well as the injury to Walters could well create problems for Brisbane.

Josh Rogers remains an option within the squad, but there is precious little else to slot into the halves should Brisbane run into problems.
