The world of NRL contracts is a constantly evolving space, and while we are now more than four months into the 2027 recruitment window, there is little doubt the more than 130 players still off-contract at the end of the year will present plenty of storylines before the year is out.
While most eyes will focus on the top end of town, and the players who can change games immediately, there are also a whole host of younger players coming off-contract.
While young players have a track record of moving on too quickly at times, and not giving the system a chance to work, there is also no doubt that many are overlooked by coaches when they are ready for more minutes at the top end of town.
That is occurring again already in 2026, and with the Perth Bears to join the competition in 2027, there will be more spots on rosters, both in Top 30 squads and development lists, than ever before.
Here are the seven players who may well be set to switch clubs at the end of 2026 if they don't get more minutes from their current sides.
4. Jonathan Sua (Canterbury Bulldogs)
Sua made his NRL debut in 2024, playing a single game for the blue and white at the back-end of the season, and certainly didn't look out of place despite being just 19 years of age at the time.
In that game, he made 175 metres, broke tackles and threatened the line, while also doing a solid enough job in defence.
For a young kid, he looked like he had a big future in the game. In fact, he still does.
But it may not be at Canterbury. Sua didn't feature at all in 2025, and somehow seems to be even further out of calculations coming into 2026.
Despite scoring 15 tries in 21 NSW Cup games last year, and two in his first this year against the Dragons, Sua is behind Jacob Kiraz and Marcelo Montoya, but also seemingly Enari Tuala and Jethro Rinakama.
The Bulldogs do have the ongoing Bronson Xerri situation which could shake up the back five, but Sua's only path into first-grade - and there should be one available for the talent - may be to find another home.
Speaking to Canterbury's immense young talent, they are the only club with two players on this list. There are other strong lists of juniors around the competition who need minutes of course, but none with the pressing contract situation that would be keeping Belmore authorities up at night.
