Grand Final week is finally upon us, and what a Grand Final we have.
The two best sides across the competition, both of whom seem to be peaking at the right time.
Neither side is missing a megastar through injury or suspension either.
This game has all the ingredients to be one of the all time deciders!!!
Unfortunately that doesn't always mean a brilliant, or competitive game. We've seen Grand Final blowouts in the past, while other games have been ... ok.
Today though we are going to focus on those Grand Finals that not only lived up to but even surpassed all expectations.
Below are the top five Grand Finals since 2010 (included):
4. Melbourne Storm 26 def Penrith Panthers 20 - 2020
This game is going to be near impossible to sum up, but wish me luck.
The Melbourne Storm was literally perfect in the first 40 minutes. They lead this game 22-0 at the break and this game was as done as a game could ever be.
Ryan Papenhuyzen further drove the nails into the Penrith coffins after the break by scoring a try you'd see in the under 6s.
He cruised through like that one kid who was a mile faster than anyone else.
Then Penrith clicked into the gear they had been able to routinely find all season long.
In an insane final 20 minutes, the Panthers ran in four unanswered tries.
There was some luck involved, let's leave it at that, but the fact is they created a breathtaking final minute finish that this game never had any right to enjoy.
If this game went another two or three minutes, I am convinced that we're headed to extra time.
I don't remember a game of this magnitude that had so many sways in momentum.
Ryan Papenhuyzen was 11/10 on the night. So much so that the betting agencies were paying out at half time on Clive Churchill bets.
That final 20 minutes from Penrith was a real preview of what was to come. More on that later.
