Ranking every Maori and Indigenous All Stars fixture... So far

The All Stars is the fixture that brings two cultures together to showcase the greatest respective Indigenous athletes in Australia and New Zealand. Ahead of the 2026 edition, Zero Tackle ranks the best clashes between these two cultures since its inception in 2019, based on score, atmosphere, teams, individual performances and the impact it's left on Rugby League. 2024 Indigenous 22 - Maori 14 A wet night in Townsville resulted in a lacklustre crowd figure of 15,579. Both sides handled the Steeden poorly, with 28 errors combined. Not much was to be remembered of this fixture, other than Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow had a classy individual performance from left centre for the Indigenous All-Stars, resulting in a 22-14 victory for them. 2021 Indigenous 10 - Maori 10 It was a tight contest resulting in a draw in Townsville, with stand-outs being Benji Marshall and Jarome Luai combining nicely in the halves for the Maori All Stars. Both teams named strong sides which saw Jordan Riki burst onto the scene as a out-and-out starter. Despite some showers, the crowd was boisterous and fans were treated to a close game. 2019 Indigenous 34 - Maori 14 The inaurgural clash between two cultures, there was fireworks straight off the bat to signal that we were in for something special, with the war cry and haka from respective teams bringing the fans to their feet. There was also a young David Fifita unleashed onto the scene, scoring an impressive try from a grubber. Blake Ferguson also had a day out to remember, scoring a classy try along with a backflip celebration. Indigenous All-Stars were too good, resulting in a 34-14 victory at AAMI Park in Melbourne. 2022 Maori 16 - Indigenous 10 Another wet weather footy fixture, but this time it was met with a boisterous crowd with plenty of push and shove during the match. It was a tight contest which saw Maori All-Stars win 16-10 at CommBank Stadium in Sydney. We really started to see the sin-bin crackdown in full force with three during the match. Both sides fielded strong lineups with the highlight being Kodi Nikorima pulling the strings for the Maori All-Stars to get the job done. 2023 Indigenous 28 - Maroi 24 The first time the fixture was played outside of Australia, and it delivered. The Indigenous boys got the job done over in Rotorua, with a 24-28 win. Selwyn Cobbo scored a hattrick in the final quarter of the match from the left wing to secure the victory in front of a vocal crowd in the afternoon. Nicho Hynes coming off a Dally M Medal victory had a masterclass, having his fingerprints on most of the tries while scoring a great solo one too. A gripping fixture to set the tone for the season ahead. 2020 Maori 30 - Indigenous 16 An electric Gold Coast atmosphere on a dry night saw Brandon Smith cement himself as one of the most dominant dummy halves in the competition, who was easily the best on ground that night. Both war cry and haka were emotional with plenty of passion, with it being the 10-year anniversary of the first All-Stars clash at the same ground. The Maori All-Stars ran away with this one, resulting in a 30-16 win along with another great Blake Ferguson post try celebration back-flip. 2025 Maori 10 - Indigenous 6 Two sides with great balance of youth and experience, with a plethora of international and state representative players filled throughout both lineups. Another gripping contest resulting in a 10-6 Maori All-Stars win at CommBank Stadium. The jersey designers on both respective teams did an amazing job, with both kits looking best-to-date since the fixtures inception. Maori All-Stars long-term player Dane Gagai made a decisive try-saving tackle in the final moments to get his side the win.
