Brisbane Broncos head coach has revealed he has no interest in Stefano Utoikamanu's comments from earlier this week.
The Melbourne forward, who will play in a grand final in his first year at the club after shifting from the Wests Tigers, admitted earlier this week that there were a number of Brisbane players he considered "stuck up" and was looking forward to taking the first run of the game at them as a result.
“I'm going to make sure I set up this week to get that first kick of the game - there are going to be a lot of people I want to run at, a lot of people I don't like on this team,” the prop was quoted as saying earlier this week.
“I don't want to name names, there are a lot of people I think are a bit stuck up. I'm pretty keen just to run out and do a job for our team.”
Asked about the comments at a pre grand final fan event though, Maguire said his playing group would have their own motivations, and that Utoikamanu's comments meant little.
“My players have got their own motivations,” Maguire said when asked.
“They've been very dialled in for the last couple of months and we've really focused a lot more on ourselves than what goes on around us.
“This is why we are where we are.”
The 2025 Grand Final will be played on Sunday night, with Maguire looking to coach the Broncos over the Storm after the Red Hill-based outfit managed wins over the Canberra Raiders and Penrith Panthers in their two finals contests.
