The 2026 NRL season is shaping up to be one of the most entertaining and wide open years yet.
Last season proved that the NRL is only getting more competitive, and with the player shuffle in full swing, the next level of footy is coming.
Every team, except for the Cronulla Sharks, have new player signings for the 2026 season.
Now is the perfect time for reinvention and refinement, allowing the bottom-tier clubs to redefine their teams and the top-tier clubs to elevate themselves to the next level.
Here are Zero Tackle's top five recruits who could change their new clubs for the better in 2026 and beyond.
Reed Mahoney to the North Queensland Cowboys
Former Bulldogs hooker Reed Mahoney will be replacing Reece Robson at the Cowboys with a three-year deal in place until 2028.
Following an unfavorable exit from Belmore and a late-season demotion to the bench, Mahoney is set to reclaim his role as a starting number nine, securing the spot and his first appearance for the new club in this weeks trial.
North Queensland endured a disappointing 2025 campaign, finishing 12th after placing 5th the year prior.

As pressure mounts on head coach Todd Payten, the need for a turnaround has never been greater.
The Cowboys' defence and discipline were a particular area of concern last season, having the second-most points conceded against them with a 28.5 average per game.
To rub salt into the wound, North Queensland were also recognised to have consistently made the most errors out of any other team, with an average of 13.2 per game.
The injection of Reed Mahoney will not only bolster their defensive efforts but also promote a more gritty and aggressive approach across the park.
Although seen as one of the most prolific ‘serial pests' of the game, there is no question that Mahoney is a passionate and competitive player.
Mahoney's attitude in the early days at the Bulldogs was one of the more notable factors in their climb up the ladder and on-field aggression.
Whilst attack and defence are a pivotal part of a team's success, there is an argument to be made that the culture instilled into a team is just as important.
The introduction of Mahoney into the Cowboys' side will redefine their values and is set to be a dangerous and exciting marriage.
