Veteran Cowboys forward Gavin Cooper has rejected offers from rival clubs and is set to play on in 2020.
Cooper, 34, has played 231 of his 307 NRL games for the Cowboys and will go down as one of the best players in the club’s short history.
Contract negotiations always seem to ramp up this time of year though Cooper believes a deal will get done shortly.
“I don’t plan on hanging them up and we’ll make a call in the not too distant future,” he told NRL.com.
Talks of him going elsewhere were quickly quashed by Cooper.
“It was either, we’ll do something here or we won’t do anything at all.”
After a somewhat disappointing 2019 campaign, Cooper remains optimistic for the clubs’ future after blooding a lot of youngsters this season.
“It’s an exciting squad and I know people will base this year just on wins and losses but there’s a couple of guys that are coming into the squad now that you’ve seen a little bit of footy from,” he added
The Cowboys will play their last ever home game at 1300SMILES Stadium on Thursday night when they host the in-form Bulldogs.
