Dolphins head coach Kristian Woolf has labelled his side's performance against the Manly Sea Eagles "a mystery" but pushed back to the idea of making any personnel changes to his squad.
Woolf's side have had a horrendously inconsistent start to the year, notching up wins against the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Gold Coast Titans and Cronulla Sharks over the first three weeks before their defence let them down against the Brisbane Broncos and Manly Sea Eagles.
The Redcliffe-based side - playing one of just two home games this year at their spiritual home - conceded 52 points against Manly on Thursday evening, with the Northern Beaches-based outfit making an incredible start to life with interim coach Kieran Foran at the helm.
Woolf, speaking post-game, was at a loss for words to describe his team's performance.
"Look, it is a bit of a mystery. I thought our preparation was good. I certainly didn't get any feels that bothered me before the game or anything like that," Woolf said.
"If you look at the start of the game I thought we created opportunities, but we became really ill-disciplined as the game went on. We were ill-disciplined with the ball as shown with the first line break when we were determind to get rid of it, and then we were ill-disciplined with out defence after that as well.
"If you give a good attacking side, and a big side like that as much footy as we did, they become harder and harder to handle. It just wasn't good enough."
Woolf was asked whether he would make any changes to his side, but pushed back.
"No, we have to make changes what we are doing. We have to improve what we are doing," the coach said.
One of those changes will be the Dolphins' discipline.
Woolf's side lost the penalty count 9-3, but were behind 9-0 at one stage, while they also made 14 errors compared to Manly's five.
All of that meant Manly had 62 per cent of the ball by the time it was all said and done, with the Dolphins completing just eight sets in the first half and 20 of 31 by fulltime, while the visitors completed 42 of 47 sets.
The Dolphins also had to make 394 tackles, compared to their opposition's 212.
Woolf's side, now stumbling down the ladder, have the bye next weekend, and things won't get any easier in Round 7 when they clash with the Penrith Panthers in Darwin.
