Eels forward Tepai Moeroa could be making a return to rugby union as the NSW Waratahs plan a cross-code swoop for the former Australian Schoolboys star.

Moeroa's name has constantly been whispered for a return to the 15-man game while the exciting youngster falls out of a contract, with the Waratahs now keen to offer a heavy deal.

Moeroa, 23, was a union schoolboy standout, plying his trade for two years in Australian Schoolboy rugby with Newington College. Moeroa was also a part of Australia's silver medal-winning Sevens side at the Youth Olympics at Sydney in 2013.

Moeroa has capped 101 first-grade games since his debut in 2014 with the Eels, starting in their back row, but has recently played through the middle of the field.
