With the NRL season coming to a close, those who started a new chapter in their rugby league career have been given ample time to prove their worth to their new teammates, clubs and fans.

Naturally, some have disappointed, with veterans failing to live up to their reputations, or young talent thrown in the deep end too quickly.

However, some have been just as good on the pitch as they originally seemed on paper.

Whether it be bargain buys, diamonds in the rough or blockbuster signings, these are the players who have not only met expectations but exceeded them, transforming their teams in both subtle and spectacular ways.

So, in no particular order, here are the eight best signings of the 2025 NRL season.

A signing where stats don't paint the full picture, Gutherson has brought significant stability and leadership to a club that was dearly lacking it following the departure of Ben Hunt.

Signing on a three-year deal, 'Gutho' hit the ground running at the St George Illawarra Dragons, immediately taking up the vacant captaincy alongside fellow recruit Damien Cook.

The 31-year-old is the reason the Dragons have been competitive in so many games this season.

His efforts carried the side to famous victories over the Broncos and Sharks in rounds 11 and 23, respectively.

Not to mention, eight direct try contributions in the four games the Dragons have lost by two points or less this season.

Despite a decline in average running metres and total try contributions, Gutherson still ranked second in the league for support plays, fourth for linebreak assists and posted a career-high 18 line breaks, a testament to the unwavering effort he has brought to his new club.
