Ten years ago, on March 6, 2016, an 18-year-old Latrell Mitchell burst onto the NRL stage, running out in the Sydney Roosters' tri-colours for his debut.
From that very first game, it was clear he wasn't just another rookie. Mitchell's power, footwork, and fearless running marked him as a player built for the big moments.
Over the next decade, he would score breathtaking tries, deliver match-winning performances, lift premierships, and cement his reputation as one of the most electrifying and talked-about players in rugby league. Off the field, Mitchell has also made a lasting impact as a leader and advocate, using his platform to champion social change and inspire the next generation.
To mark this milestone, we celebrate 10 moments that have defined his career and cemented his legacy as one of the standout stars of the modern game.
9. Moment 9: 2023 Ken Stephen Medal & community impact
In 2023, Latrell Mitchell was awarded the Ken Stephen Medal at the Dally M Awards, the NRL's highest recognition for community service, often referred to as the "Man of the Year" title. This honour highlighted his ongoing engagement with Souths Cares and his deep commitment to advocating for youth, particularly in Indigenous communities, regional NSW, and mental health.
Throughout 2023, Mitchell made impactful visits to flood-affected areas like Cabbage Tree Island, Brewarrina, and Comboyne, offering support and promoting grassroots Rugby League. His advocacy against bullying and racism has been a cornerstone of his community work. Despite facing unjust criticism and racial abuse for taking a stand, Mitchell continues to fight for change and justice, using his platform to call out racism and bullying wherever it appears.
In addition to his advocacy, Mitchell launched his business venture, Winmarra, in the 2022 off-season. The brand and foundation are dedicated to connecting young Aboriginal people to culture, agriculture, and leadership.
