Ten years ago, on March 6, 2016, an 18-year-old Latrell Mitchell burst onto the NRL stage, running out in the Sydney Roosters' tri-colours for his debut.
From that very first game, it was clear he wasn't just another rookie. Mitchell's power, footwork, and fearless running marked him as a player built for the big moments.
Over the next decade, he would score breathtaking tries, deliver match-winning performances, lift premierships, and cement his reputation as one of the most electrifying and talked-about players in rugby league. Off the field, Mitchell has also made a lasting impact as a leader and advocate, using his platform to champion social change and inspire the next generation.
To mark this milestone, we celebrate 10 moments that have defined his career and cemented his legacy as one of the standout stars of the modern game.
10. Moment 10: 2025 50-metre field goal and comeback
In 2025, Latrell Mitchell produced one of the most iconic moments of his career, icing a 50m field goal in a dramatic comeback against the Brisbane Broncos. With the Rabbitohs trailing 14-0 at halftime, Mitchell's long-range shot in the pouring rain put Souths ahead for the first time with just 2 minutes remaining.
But the heroics didn't stop there. Mitchell finished the game with a try in the final minute, securing a 22-14 win. In total, he added 14 points through a penalty goal, a field goal, a try, and 3 conversions. His impact wasn't limited to attack as he made a key defensive play, stopping Deine Mariner in his tracks and forcing him into touch to deny a try.
The field goal, accompanied by a humble walk-away, was a powerful reminder that Mitchell was still at his best in big moments, showing why he should be “locked in” for the NSW Blues in future Origin campaigns. Over the final 10 minutes of the match, he racked up 14 points—kicking a penalty, landing the field goal, scoring, and converting his own try—a truly phenomenal individual performance.
