We are five weeks into the 2026 NRL campaign, and plenty of talent are introducing their names in the State of Origin conversations.
With the introduction of the six-man bench, many players' chances of being selected in the squad have sky-rocketed.
The focus here will be on the players who haven't been made eligible because of the change in Tier 1 restrictions earlier this year. So players such as Addin Fonua-Blake, Jason Taumalolo and Briton Nikora will not feature.
Here are some players who could make their Origin debut in this year's series.
5. Sam Walker (QLD)
It is nearing closer and closer to Sam Walker's time in the maroon jersey. Since his debut in 2021, Walker has proven to be a chief playmaking half and controls a game beautifully with his strong kicking game. It also makes him instrumental in the Roosters' humming attack, with lofted passes to his wingers and 'eyes-up footy' all part of his game.
Although he is unlikely to claim a starting spot without injuries, he would be a perfect option for the Maroons' six-man bench to act as HIA and halves injury coverage. Walker has been touted as the Maroons' next big thing, and despite incumbents Tom Dearden and Cameron Munster expected to reclaim their spots, I can see a future where Walker's long-term position in the rep arena is off the bench.
