We've reached the halfway point of the 2025 NRL season, and the competition is still tighter than ever. Just six points separate 5th place from last, meaning the Top 8 could look very different come finals time.

With all 17 clubs still in the hunt for a playoff berth, one thing is clear: no side in this competition is invincible.

14Cronulla Sharks: Inconsistency

The Cronulla Sharks have been a fun side to watch in the Craig Fitzgibbon era. Between the acrobatics of Ronaldo Mulitalo, the silkiness of Nicho Hynes, and the destructiveness of Addin Fonua-Blake, there's no reason why the Sharks can't be a premiership winner in 2025.

However, we've been saying that for a few years, yet still no ring to show for it.

The Sharks' inability to play consistent winning football has been a point of frustration for fans over the past three years.

Despite being a mainstay in the Top 8, they've been unable to maintain the high expectations in the finals, which has seen them make it past the first round just once in three years.

This trend can be expected to continue, with their squad on the cusp of a finals berth in a competition that has gotten substantially closer in 2025.

If the Sharks can figure out their path moving forward and stick to it, we could see the Provan-Summons Trophy return to the Shire after a nine-year drought, but that is a big if for a side who hasn't worked it out so far.
