Dolphins centre Herbie Farnworth has claimed at every available opportunity he doesn't want to leave the Dolphins, but the English international has been sensationally linked to the Sydney Roosters.

One of the game's best centres, Farnworth had an exceptional 2025 campaign, and has started 2026 strongly as well.

Currently signed until the end of 2027, the English international would be free to negotiate with rival clubs from November 1 should he choose to head to the open market.

While there has been no suggestion of that being likely at this stage, the English centre briefly entertained it before re-signing with the Dolphins last time, and now it has been theorised that the Sydney Roosters could come knocking.

“I was talking to a couple of people earlier this week and they said to me, “Mate just keep an eye on Herbie Farnworth. There's a little bit of mail kicking around that the Roosters are just monitoring the situation with Herbie,” journalist James Hooper said on FanaticsTV's Rugby League Insider.

“Now Herbie's off-contract at the end of next season but that means he's a free agent as of November 1. If he isn't signed by them, then he can go to the open market.

“The theory is that the Roosters are very much having a look at Herbie because he's an English international and he has electric speed, strong defence, love his footwork and a tryscorer.

“They've signed DCE in the last 12 months. They've signed Reece Robson in the last 12 months.

“They've had James Tedesco as the captain of the club for a number of seasons now and that's all part of the Herbie Farnworth management stable.”

The Roosters have plenty of cash available given the club's high-profile departures in recent times, with more to come.

Mark Nawaqanitawase leaves at the end of this year to head back to rugby union, while Daniel Tupou and James Tedesco are also approaching the end of their careers.

The tri-colours have, by all reports, also attempted to leave cash on the table to lure Joseph Manu back from rugby union at some point, while their only big signing in recent times has been Reece Robson.

Other upgrades to contracts of young players have cut into their finances a little bit, but the club are still well positioned to attack next year's free agency market with Farnworth potentially one of the best players available.
