The 2026 NRL season is shaping up to be one of the most entertaining and wide open years yet.

Last season proved that the NRL is only getting more competitive, and with the player shuffle in full swing, the next level of footy is coming.

Every team, except for the Cronulla Sharks, have new player signings for the 2026 season.

Now is the perfect time for reinvention and refinement, allowing the bottom-tier clubs to redefine their teams and the top-tier clubs to elevate themselves to the next level.

Here are Zero Tackle's top five recruits who could change their new clubs for the better in 2026 and beyond.

David Fifita to the South Sydney Rabbitohs

David Fifita has departed the Titans after securing a two-year deal with the Rabbitohs, the signing arguably one of the most instrumental player movements for the 2026 season.

The move represents a fresh start for the second rower looking to rebuild his career and reignite his legacy.

A proven representative across Origin and internationally for both Australia and Tonga, Fifita brings elite experience, leadership, and a dominant physical presence.

Crowned Dally M Second Rower of the Year in 2023, he remains one of the most naturally talented forwards in the game, and if he stays fit, could be a strong contender for the award again.

His destructive running game and aggressive edge play add a completely new dimension to South Sydney's forward pack, raising the ceiling for the club.

Reuniting with Wayne Bennett provides the perfect environment for Fifita to rewrite his story, whilst joining Latrell Mitchell and Alex Johnston creates one of the most damaging left edges in the competition.

This recruitment signals a genuine shift in the Souths' trajectory — from spoon avoiders to legitimate finals contenders — and could shape the Rabbitohs' success well beyond 2026.
