The Parramatta Eels have announced the signing of former Blue & Gold player Tony Williams on a one year contract until the end of the 2018 season.

Williams made his NRL debut for the Parramatta Eels in 2008 before stints with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Cronulla Sharks.

The 165 NRL game veteran will bring plenty of experience to the Blue & Gold forward pack says Head Coach Brad Arthur.

“Tony will be a great addition to our squad in 2018 and will bring a wealth of experience and depth to our forward pack this season.“ Brad Arthur said.

“Not only will Tony be a welcome addition on the field, but he will also be a wealth of knowledge to our established squad.”

“We look forward to welcoming Tony back into the Blue & Gold, the Club where he made his NRL debut a decade ago.”

Tony Williams joins Kane Evans and Jaeman Salmon as new Parramatta Eels recruits ahead of the 2018 season.

  1. not so sure on this signing – at the right contract value and for one year it could turn out to be a positive or it could also turn out to be confirmation that his days as an NRL player are over.

  2. It’s not a bad signing
BA has habit of getting the best out of average forwards too.. this will be a big test for BA..
Williams needs to show more aggression… I can’t see him breaking into the 17 though unless there’s a lot of injuries

  3. Micheal Jennings is an islander and plays for 80 minutes and is one of the best centres in the NRL.
Manu Ma’u is an islander and plays 80 minutes and is one of the best forwards in the game.
Our other islanders are props and props don’t play a full 80 minutes.
Any other stupid, offensive and uneducated comments you would like to make easts75.

  4. Past his best and is lazy.
Hopefully BA can get him to lift or it is another dud signing.
The signing of Williams and Evans doesn’t instil a lot of confidence for next year.

    • Kev, you may be right about “T-Rex the toothless” but not about Evans. I think he will do a Nathan Brown and reinvent himself at the Eels given more playing time and responsibility. He has a lot of natural skill and IMO is better utilised as an edge back rower. In the open he has the speed of an outside back but this never gets used to advantage making the hard yards through the middle third. He is a lot like Brenton Lawrence in that respect. Not a front rower but an edge back rower who is being played in the wrong position. Souths made the same mistake with Dave Tyrrell, Kyle Turner and Jason Clark.

      • You may be right SSTID_1970 but we have plenty of edge back rowers and to me they are better than Evans.
Evans was bought as a prop which we sorely need but we need a top notch prop not a bench warmer like Evans.

  5. On a basic contract I think this could be a good signing depth wise. He won’t be in the top 17, but he will be there if needed due to injuries etc.

  6. It’s Jurassic Park all over again! Look what happened when they tried to bring the T-Rex back from extinction. It didn’t end well. In this case though I think they mixed the genome of a possum to fill the gaps because he does go into hiding a lot to be fair. 😉

    • I like the Jurassic Park reference for T-Rex, fits in well 🙂
In all honesty, this is purely a depth signing and he would have come very cheap, so no harm done really with this signing.

      • Fair point. But “Possum-Rex” hardly strikes fear into the hearts of the opposition.

If he had the motor and intensity of Angus Crichton he would have had a mortgage on a rep jersey for most of his career but you get the sense he never really wanted it enough.

        • thats cos your mates mates gave him no incentive to do so when he was merely a 2nd string winger at his junior club…
(hows that for pot stirring? 😉 )

        • Well I made finals in my first ever attempt in SC , yep had DCE and Turbo , sold em both but , 😂😂😂Dufty and that pommie 7 for dragons (forgot his name) did good , I got rid of 12million dollar man after he excelled , 22points for 80 mins of footy 😂😂😂DCEeeeeeeeeeeeee

        • SSTID – i hope you’re not inferring that eels47, almighty and i are larry curly and mo……thats disparaging to say the least.
but if you were referring to others – all is fair…..
well SC was an eye opener – took me a while to work things out and develop a strategy – 2017 was a trial for 2018.
who won overall SC? good ole eels boy from ubet in birsvegas…..the eels boys in brisvegas might know a thing or two 😉

        • How did I get roped into this “3 stooges” (sorry AC) analogy?

By the way MW, I think you meant DCtehehehe.

        • Well SSTID that’s not what the stats say , how good was Uate 😂😂😂😂😂 until he had to catch the ball WHEN IT MATTERED

        • 3 stooges… deeply offended. How dare you!😂😂😂

If we are the 3 stooges, does that make you 2 the odd couple?

        • billy, you realise you can post on ZT from a mobile phone right? That way you can have a life and yet post from wherever you are at the same time. You aren’t locked to your home PC billy surely? Welcome to the 21st century mate and mobile communications. 📱 😂

  7. Well my friend if you abuse make sure you misspell that’s ok , but make it easy and refer to Parra as Club 13 😂😂😂😂😂the fans ❤️ It

  8. Just heard Mate Myles retired. He had an awesome first 3/4 of his career.
Last quarter hmmmm not so much.
All the best in the next chapter anyway.

      • You trying to start something screamingeagle? It’s SSTID for starters (although there is a profile on here trying to confuse things), secondly, don’t throw me under the bus when I am not involved in this. I haven’t attacked you, or eaglerock or holmsey so a little perspective would be appreciated. Cheers.

Remember, like holmsey, if you step into the octagon be prepared to go one on one without dragging other people in. I can’t help you with “the angry eagle” though there is no leash that can contain him. Trust me, I’ve tried. Good luck!

  9. Taking down SSTID’s posts is ridiculous, the place has been stale till we lite it up , maybe SSTID needs to use dirty language, there’s obviously nothing wrong with that aie ,

  10. Won’t see a second of first grade
I thought Dave Taylor was useless
This guy makes Taylor look like Tallis lol
