Rabbitohs captain Sam Burgess will be free to play this Sunday against Melbourne after successfully contesting his Careless High Tackle charge.
Burgess' charge was downgraded from a Grade 2 to a Grade 1, which enabled him to get away with only a fine.
Burgess is now free to take his place in the South Sydney side in their Top 4 clash against the Storm at Central Coast Stadium.
The news for James Maloney and the Penrith Panthers though is not so good.
Maloney was hoping to overturn his tripping charge at the judiciary hearing but failed in his attempt to avoid a one-match ban.
Maloney argued that he extended his leg in an attempt to kick the ball rather than trip Bulldogs player Jeremy Marshall-King.
Panthers head coach Ivan Cleary will now need to name a replacement for Maloney in their Round 21 match against the Cronulla Sharks.

Like many, I’m still astounded at the leniency the judiciary extended Hargraeves after his deliberate attempt to mame Kalyn Ponga which has left the NRL community totally disgusted.

If you play for Penrith, you should just take the suspension & not challenge the charge. As you aren’t getting off. Kikau & Maloney are two examples of this.
You can be there on charges all the time like Hargreavex & Burgess & get off sometimes. But if you play for Penrith, forget it.
