Cronulla captain Paul Gallen has called an end to his NRL career, after announcing on Friday morning he's set to hang up the boots at the end of the 2019 season.

Following 19 seasons in the NRL, Gallen announced the news on KIIS FM.

“I’m going to retire from rugby league this year,” he said.

“Yeah definitely retiring at the end of the year. I’ve really enjoyed where I’ve been and what I’ve done but I’m ready to retire. I’ve had enough of the rollercoaster to be honest.”

Gallen has played 327 first grade games for the Sharks, after making his debut in round 15, 2001.

MORE TO COME.

  1. Good thing his media career is going to be with Nine and not Fox League, s I won’t have to listen to any more of his dribble

  2. Don’t worry Ronnie/Marldon (yes we know it’s you) , you’ll still be able to follow him in the media.

One day you’ll be on your deathbed with your life flashing before your eyes and all you’re going to see is yourself sitting at your PC writing about Paul Gallen and the Sharks……you’ve been at it for years champ, time to find a new hobby because the Sharks will be around long after you’re gone

  3. maybe he will focus on his boxing career and get his head punched in by SBW

Peptides will not be the same without him

  4. Onya Gal. Absolute legend for Cronulla, Australia, & NSW. Has been a privelege watching you play for the last 19yrs. Now the jealous hater/closet Gallen fans can continue to follow you in your media career! 🙂 🙂

  5. Top player for the Sharks, NSW and Australia, an absolute Champion competitor and is truly amazing that he debut in 2001 and still playing pretty good in 2019. Fantastic strong man who clobbered the mellon of Nat Myles in the Origin game after that big head Qld tried to intimidate Gal. Great stuff Gal.✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔✔

  6. +1. Yep i knew it was ole marldy nuts from the get go as well. That stroke he had when Sharks beat his Storm seems to have dulled his venom just a tad, but hes unfortunately starting to come out of his shell a little bit more lately ive noticed.

  7. It is a very good day for Cronulla. Congratulations to the sharks club and fans. The future is looking a lot brighter today.

  8. Yeah. Hit him twice and Myles just looks at him. A real boxer? He can’t punch his way out of a wet paper bag. Hoppa was no challenge.
See ya Gal ya loser. Some more peptides bro?
