Canberra Raiders forward and English international star Elliott Whitehead has extended his contract with the Raiders until the end of the 2018 season.

Whitehead, 26, joined the Raiders at the beginning of 2016 after a successful seven seasons in the English Super League and has instantly made an impact in the NRL, playing all 22 matches for the Raiders this year.

He was currently on contract with the club until the end of 2017; however his form and performances in his debut season meant the Raiders made the extension a top priority.

Whitehead said the way in which the Raiders had performed so far this season was a factor in his decision to extend his contract and said he’s starting to feel like he belongs in the NRL.

“We are building something really good at the club at the moment and I want to be part of that. It was an easy choice for me to extend for another year,” Whitehead said. “I feel like I have adapted very well to the NRL now. Hopefully I can keep improving as a player and keep helping the team out week in week out.

“We have really improved from where we were at the start of the year, especially with defence. We are working a lot harder for each other and it’s showing on the field with the results”

  1. And why wouldn’t we resign him? He performs at top level nearly every week. He rarely has a bad game…

  2. Why is it that the English forwards go really well in the NRL but the backs seem to struggle?
Joe Burgess struggles at NRL level and from what I’ve seen of Hardaker he might struggle as well. Tomkins didn’t live up to expectations either. It will be interesting to see our Sarginson goes next season.
    Cheers
    Ps. Good resigning Raiders.

    • Wasn’t it great that Leilua scored from the penalty. I hope he hammers him in the second half for that

  3. The storm filth with Cameron Smith will never get penalised because Smithy runs the NRL. Wouldn’t be surprised if he dictated the rules and salary cap with Todd Softberg as his assistant

  4. How is Harris allowed to come back on?? He was in Gaga land.
If on these hand shoves in the face from players in these so called fights pushes the nose up with force it could do some serious damage.
    Cheers

  5. Awesome win Raiders! That defence was fantastic, haven’t seen them defend like that in a looong time! I think that win means the Dogs and the Raiders round out the top 4 because the Cowboys lost yesterday. Dogs vs Raiders grand final anyone? 😉

    • As long as it is 1994 all over again. I can see Klemmer reprising the role of Marty Bella from the kick off.

      • If we meet in the grand final the result will turn the way of the blue and whites. Also, there will be no knock on from big Dave Klemmer ;). The finals series is really heating up.

    • Yeah them dodgy refs, letting rapana drag the storm player along the ground and out after he was held, those cheating refs making bj force offload for 3 errors, geez they had it in for the raiders. Can’t believe the refs were making the raiders halves kick it dead, or take poor 5th tackle options, them pesky refs! It was also blatant cheating when the refs made Hodgson twist Jesse head around, I bet those cheaters even charge him for it!

      • I’m actually a raiders fan. Awesome defence won that game, I think that great defence is going to mask all the errors though. And just quietly, storm still have 2 or 3 titles that wernt stripped. Gronk? What are u like 17, walking around with a Lacoste polo, collar up of coarse haha nah all good mate. Do u think green machine can go all the way or will those silly errors cost them?

  6. Oh how sweet it was watching Canberra beat the Phlegm!!! HA HA
Phlegm getting the rub of the green and still got beat.. So Sweet!!

  7. good to see raiders beat those magot scum the choke for the mexicans has started ..cows and sharks will bounce back this week but not them ..believe that
