The Sharks are chasing the services of Titans second-rower Keegan Hipgrave, who was seen with Maroons fullback Clinton Schifcofske with Cronulla officials at a local cafe.
The 21-year old has made 10 NRL appearances and is attracting the interest of a host of rival clubs.
Gold Coast coach Garth Brennan would like to retain Hipgrave, but thinks it may be tough considering the club has emptied their pockets to secure Jarrod Wallace and Shannon Boyd.
Sharks skipper Paul Gallen is expected to retire at the end of the season and Hipgrave could replace the 36-year old as the team's No.13.
A hard-hitting defender, Hipgrave has been suspended twice and charged three times by the match review committee.
