The North Queensland Cowboys have announced the re-signing of young forward Patrick Kaufusi to a one-year contract extension.

The New Zealand-born Bundaberg Brothers junior has come through the club’s Elite Pathways program, playing for the club’s under-20s team and then for feeder team the Northern Pride in the Intrust Super Cup.

Kaufusi, 22, made his NRL debut for the club in Round 16 last year and has played a total of nine games in the top grade.

  1. In other news… Cowboys can sign who ever they want, they have no cap and can hide there dodgy deals and claim its all above board when JT retires… Never seen a premiership side have such an easy time keeping the side together…

    • Money is not always the main factor when players choose to sign or stay with a side variables such as club culture, coaching staff and current playing rosters come into play. The Cowboys are obviously doing something right with players like Jason Taumalolo and Lachlan Coote signing for well below market value. To stay Jase declined big money from the Warriors and Lachlan Coote chose to stay for less money and for a contract period half of what other clubs offered ( 2 years instead of 4 years another club offered). The coach would have a big impact Paul Green has the Cowboys as last year Premiers and in the top 4 for most of this session ( not bad for a coach in his second year and first NRL head coaching role. )

  2. This comment won’t reshape humanity… If I was in your physical presence you might be inclined to punch me in the throat…BUT if the article is about Kaufusi, then the photo shouldn’t be so ambiguous about who Kaufusi is.

    • @ greenblooded what is Paul like as a prop I have not watch many Raiders games where he has been a standout. I would liked to have held onto Tamou but that is not to be so is Paul a good replacement?

  3. He was close to NSW selection last year, but he’s had a slight slump in form in the last few weeks…which is why he has been relegated to the Mounties, which is probably why the Cowboys are going for him (I bet David Furner has a lot to do with it). Plus, our depth is pretty solid at the moment and our current props are Boyd, Paulo, Tapine and Preist…who are all in pretty good form. So Vaughan is finding it hard to get a spot. Vaughan works much better coming from the bench…he does have a few mistakes in his game, but so does nearly all props. He’s not quite up to Tamou level, but he is fearless…a decent replacement. But I don’t think we will let him go easily…Vaughan and Lima are our back ups in case of injury, and Lima will be nearly retiring so that leaves Vaughan…so I don’t think we will let him go. Fensom on the other hand? I don’t think we will be fighting for him too much…

  4. Thanks for the rundown greenblooded I heard the Cows are after McLean from the storm but I dont think they will let him go.
