Sharks prop Andrew Fifita has revealed this his post-try spray during Cronulla's 28-16 win over North Queensland on Saturday night was directed at assistant coach Jim Dymock.

After crashing through in the 69th minute, Fifita appeared to yell “you f***ed up!” and then “f*** you!”, before hand gesturing a talking mouth.

The Fox League commentary panel immediately speculated that it was directed at Flanagan, who hooked Fifita to the bench after only about 20 minutes in the first half.

"I love the passion of Andrew but I hope it's not directed at the coach. Something is going on here. The response from Fifita was explosive," former Sharks hooker Michael Ennis said during the coverage.

But Fifita later clarified his comments to Fox Sports.

"I had a point to prove. I went out there and scored the try. It wasn't directed at Shane Flangan. Jimmy told me I wasn't running hard enough," Fifita said.

"I don't know where the Flanagan stuff is coming from."

Flanagan added that he welcomed that sort of passion from Fifita as it brings out the best in his playing abilities.

"Jimmy is one of those blokes. He told him he wasn't running hard enough and he ran hard in the second half and scored a try," Flanagan said.

"I love that. It's what we need. I'll get Jimmy to tell him that next week as well.

"When he came on he made a big difference. He scored a try and ran with purpose. I was pretty happy with the way he played in the end."
