Brisbane Broncos forward Matt Gillett is set to be sidelined for the next three months due to a fractured neck.

Remarkably, Gillett suffered the injury in Round 1 and has been playing with three fractured vertebrae in his spine.

The injury doesn’t require surgery but Gillet will likely miss the entire State of Origin series while he recovers.

More to come.

  1. Such a terrible injury to a talented player at the wrong time! I believe the broncos will be winners this week tho, Bird to have a blinder at 5/8 and Roberts to score a couple. Bird might even be permanent halves partner with Milford with a big performance this weekend against the warriors. Back to the injury tho, I’d start Sua or bring Oates into the back row, he wants to prove himself so let him be. Also can’t wait to see boys like Haas, Carrigan and Flegler get their shot.

    • Fifita too and if Bird does stay at 6, he’d be my origin 6 with Maloney at 7. Always them big body 6s giving Queensland trouble like johns always says. Players like Fittler, Barrett, Anasta etc. Bird can give them the same problems

      • Dude, why do you have this infatuation with Bird? He’s nothing special and he’s had two games this year, both of which where rubbish. I’m sort of questioning your judgment here because I’ve been watching origin for 35 years and I don’t ever recall Barrett or Anasta troubling QLD.

        • Bird will come good, he’s overweight and only just returned from major injury to a totally new club, he’ll need time to adjust and get his fitness back, but he won’t be ready for SOO IMO.

        • Been watching bird since he was a 17 year old bing around in the 20s comp for st George. He’s as tough and as talented as they come. Barrett and Anasta were just runners, there one job and one job only. Not your typical 5/8s but Nsw were always better with big bodies at 6.

  2. How’s hypocrite uncle Wayne’s form.
Has the Hyde to call out sharks medical staff over bird’s shoulder but hey its all good If I choose to play a bloke with a bung neck.

  3. As much as Gillette is a great player I don’t think it will impact on the Bronco’s season. They have a lot bigger issues than this and will be lucky to make the 8 with or without him. Big blow for Qld. though.
