Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs half Kieran Foran will require reconstructive surgery on the shoulder that he injured while representing New Zealand at the weekend.
Foran had scans on his shoulder yesterday and will now require initial exploratory surgery to determine the full extent of the injury.
The recovery for the surgery is expected to be at least six months and could be longer depending on the results of the initial surgery.
"The news is incredibly disappointing for both Kieran and the Bulldogs, especially as he has worked so hard to get back on to the field," said Bulldogs Chief Executive Andrew Hill on the club website.
"The club will make sure that Kieran receives the best possible medical support during surgery and his rehabilitation and will continue to monitor his recovery and potential return date.
"Kieran is part of the Bulldogs family and we will make sure that he and his family receive everything they need during this time."
His current contract at the Bulldogs will be his last unless Super League beckons.
My understanding is the bulldogs canโt apply for salary cap relief because Foran wonโt miss the required 12 games. But what happens if when he plays again next season and does the same injury would the bulldogs get something then?
I feel sorry for Foran, not only is he one of my favorite players but I think he earns a lot of respect when he had a handshake deal with brad Arthur and stuck to it (regardless of how he left for personal reasons) he stuck to his word. He was a form player when he was at manly but unfortunately like a lot of players his body cannot keep up with his mind. Very sad
Toddy you are the CEO. You should know how the salary cap rorts work!!
This will be Jack Cogger’s chance to show what he’s got. I can’t see Foran back until at least July. Cogger’s got to show what he’s got. If Cogger hasn’t got it, it’s either Wakeham or Meaney. Yes, you read right – Meaney. If none of these guys shine, need to buy one top half for 2021. I think Lewis is good enough to make it, at half or five-eigth.
Yeah tough break for Foran, he is a great player but he can’t get enough time on the field to reach his old potential at Manly. I’d give it up for the sake of my body.
