Rabbitohs prop George Burgess has knocked back an offer from the Parramatta Eels, per NRL.com.

The English international will remain with the Bunnies until at least the end of the 2019 season despite drawing interest from the Eels on a multi-year contract.

Burgess told Parramatta on Tuesday of his desire to remain in South Sydney, despite not having a deal in place beyond this season.

The 26-year old is confident of earning a new contract under super coach Wayne Bennett after appearing in 27 games for the Rabbitohs last season.

Burgess was reportedly close to agreeing to a deal with the Eels but it ultimately fell through.

"He will be with us in 2019 and Wayne has always indicated he wants him here," Richardson told NRL.com.

      • Bennett has made it clear for many decades that if your a front rower in his teams, then you get paid for what you play. The Burgess twins play 40-50 mins each at best. They are looking for big bucks and Souffths will not be paying top dollar. This season will be his last at Souffths. I’m just so happy the Roosters will not offer him a cent.🐓🏆🐓🏆 I could see Manly, Newcastle or if Parra has a better season this year and up’s the original offer then he will jump.

      • Come on 3hats get you FACTS right, JWH played all over the Soufffths pack when we defeated you girls twice in 6 weeks at the business end of the season, then to top it off while playing for NZ against the Poms in three tests he outplayed the Burgess boys again on his way to winning the best player award for the NZ touring party.💪🐔👉🤣😂😁😆😁😂🤣😂😁😆😁😂🤣

      • Do you mean the test series that England Won 2-1?
Must have been everyone else’s fault that New Zealand lost the test series.

      • Firstly 3caps you forgot to mention Souffths 109th birthday, unlike the Roosters 11th birthday as I did and secondly 3hat, you have 27k members but half of them don’t go to the footy according to crowd averages. At the Roosters ALL our members attend games and a few thousand more…… .:)

  1. I’m actually glad he knocked us back, and a little disappointed we chased him as hard as we (allegedly) did.
I’m not knocking him, and we do need another big forward or 2, but I just don’t think he’s consistent enough and/or would be motivated enough, especially away from the Bunnies/his brothers, to warrant a multi year contract on big coin.
If a “retired” ZT poster is reading this, and I’m sure he is, Ned’s mighty glad right now that in you’re in retirement.
Having said that I’m convinced we dodged a bullet, but I suspect we did.

      • I did watch some Bunnies games in 2018, and yes he played well. I also watched some Bunnies games in 2017, and he was very average, to say the least. That was why I questioned consistency and/or motivation.
His 2018 form could warrant a relatively big money deal, but his 2017 form wouldn’t warrant a FG contract.
My concern, rightly or wrongly is, split him up from his brothers, move him from the Bunnies, give him financial security for 3 or 4 years on big coin, and would we get his 2017 or 2018 form?

    • Agreed mighty. Whilst his 2018 form was a lot better than anything we had, a big money contract would have concerned me too. At the right price he would be a welcome addition, but not big money. I am not surprised he stayed though, will be interesting to see what Bennett has in his plans for the twins moving forward.

    • Who said anything about the three brothers, I mentioned the twins but my post was mainly about George. Did you get all that 3foresk1ns and daffyduck🤣😂😁😆😁😂🤣💪🐔👍. George will break away from his brothers and learn to be a man by standing on his own individuality for a heap of cash at another club. Remember you heard it here first from the informative WoodChook.

      • With all the dud players in your squad there is no way in the world Parra will be get this seasons spoon. Your mob named correctly which is well over the cap has it all wrapped up. AHAHAHAHAH
