Gold Coast Titans forward Brenton Lawrence has today announced his retirement from rugby league, effective immediately.

Lawrence signed a two-year contract with the club in August but since his arrival at the club, the 32-year-old has made the decision that his mind and body can no longer take on the rigours of an NRL season.

Lawrence made his NRL debut for the Titans in Round 16 of season 2011, playing 18 games for the club, through until the end of season 2012. The Central Districts (Adelaide) junior then moved to Sydney’s northern beaches playing 84 games for Manly, taking his tally to a total of 102 games at NRL level.

“It’s with mixed emotions I make this decision. I would love to feel like a 20-year-old and have many more seasons ahead, the reality is I’m not and I believe this is the best decision for the team, and for myself,” Lawrence said.

“I’m proud of what I’ve achieved in rugby league. I have experienced some of the best years of my life both at the Gold Coast Titans and the Manly Sea Eagles.

“I’ve been so fortunate through rugby league to create incredible memories and friendships that I hold very dear and I would like to thank everyone who has ever supported my career. It is something I have never taken for granted.”

Titans Coach Garth Brennan applauded Lawrence’s ‘club first’ attitude.

“Of course we would have loved Brenton to play for the club but he has made a selfless decision and I commend him for that,” Brennan said.

“He knows his body better than anyone else so he has made a personal decision that will keep him in good health down the track.

“Brenton is a player who has made an impact in the short time he has been back, and I, as well as all of the playing group wish him well for the future.”

CEO Graham Annesley has also indicated there may be a role for Brenton within a different area of the club.

“We are currently talking to Brenton about how we can keep him involved with the Titans,” Annesley said.

“He is a quality person with an enormous amount of experience who can be a real asset for the club in a variety of areas off the field.

“His honesty in putting the club ahead of his own personal interests is a mark of the man he is.”

  1. Injuries cruelest him, whole hearted player, and loves watching him at the sea eagles. Would of played for qld with less injuries. Good luck with everything

  2. BJ , thank you for the service you gave to Manly , the NRL and to our country , you are a complete man with outstanding qualities, good luck with the rest of your career

  3. I still maintain that Lawrence was played out of position as a prop and he would have been better able to utilise his speed, acceleration and agility for a big man as an edge backrower. A quality first grader and one of the few Manly players I would have liked to see come to the Rabbitohs. 😉

    Good luck in retirement champ!

    • MW47 is right. Wishing Lawrence good luck in “retirement” is perhaps a little premature. At 32 he still has a few years left before he has to draw on a pension! Best of luck then Lawrence with your life after football.

    • “I still maintain he was played out of position “
Mmm had I said that !
How dare you think outside the box , wait , what’s that I can hear ? Lemmings marching to the drum beats set by the groupies 😂😂😂

      • Speaking of , Mr Gormans chasing Memberships for 2018 , ! But I guess not ALL will show quite as much loyalty to there club as they do to there blog 😂 , he even mentions the fact you will reciceve “privileges” , crowys a loyal fan , what are you insinuating SSTID ,
        The lemmings are getting closer

        • “Mr Gorman”? So as a member you aren’t on a first name basis with your CEO? So “privileges” don’t extend that far then? Well if I remember correctly a certain “someone” started trumpeting that their new CEO had come out and emphatically denied that Manly had been in contact with Pearce or had any interest in him. A few days later and he has done a DCE and is now talking about aggressively pursuing Pearce. I thought “flip flops” were what they called thongs in “North Korea” and were not associated with the actions of club CEO. Please explain?

        • You’ve baited my hooks , target species crocodile location Bayoub , geetm booyeee , shhhooot im, just incase my groupie fans hook into this rooting chicken bait il remind you , I DONT HAVE A MWSE MEMBERSHIP! I’m happily married mate and more than just a little uncomfortable that I have found my way into your disturbed little fantasies. It’s bad enough that danielle is obsessed, I don’t need any MORE “groupies”.

No, you read it. You are obsessed with me. Please stop. It’s becoming embarrassing. People will start to talk. Bahahahahahahaha

          My “passion” for you (SSTID)

          SSTID Goodnight.

        • @ the pair of u – no point in using your usernames as you may as well just use the same one – if you are going to quote me, quote me in context. The only person “obsessed” is you & your complete & utter inability to accept disagreement or, much less, quite valid criticism, & move on.

Secondly, I am perfectly entitled to agree with someone’s post. And that’s all I did. You really need to give up this notion that you have some sort of ownership of this place.

        • @ Zero Tackle

Damn.. You two need to meet up and fornicate. The dribble that comes out of the both of you is astounding.. Its nice to be on the dole and write absolute rubbish on Zero Tackle all day isn’t it.

And my post putting Mickization back in his box was tame by comparison yet it got removed. That first sentence alone deserves a ban but as for the later, well at least I used some wit in the deliver. This is a hatchet job.

          @ nutz

Look at my comment post times Einstein and you will see most of my posts are after business hours and the few that aren’t are normally around lunch times. No, very much employed but only YOU know if you can truly say the same. Personally I doubt it. But it isn’t that that makes you a clown. No I believe that is an innate quality that will not change despite your employment circumstances.

        • Control your “passion” danielle, it will be your undoing… along with your traceable public IP and MAC address! tick tock, tick tock.

        • Enough. How many times do you “kids” need to be warned? For the record, danielle’s IP address is shared by no other users on the website.

  4. Congrats Brenton Lawrence on an outstanding career. It was only last year that Mal Meninga selected him in his NRL360 QLD Origin team. Agreeing with SSTID_1970 would have been a welcome signing as a backrower at the Rabbitohs. Interesting timing though as Leilani Latu justed signed for the GC Titans??? What do u think?

  5. Another one of yours danielle? 👏👏👏

You sure love talking to yourself when no one else will. Funny how you only seem to post straight after “nutz jobs” like this.

    • Absolutely, how original, under the cover of darkness , the sewer will alway smell vile , call it what you like the smells the same , seems to call me in waves , every fortnight , a quick email in the morning will shorten things up
