The Brisbane Broncos are set to make a few surprise selections in the lead up to finals as they look to replace injured hooker Andrew McCullough.

Many thought the easy solution would be to replace McCullough with youngster Kodi Nikorima, allowing Ben Hunt and Anthony Milford to remain in the halves.

But it looks like this isn't Wayne Bennett's preferred plan with Hunt training at dummy half on Monday.

Playing dummy half isn't completely foreign to Hunt, with the 27-year-old starting two matches for the Brisbane club back in 2010 at hooker.

Hunt also played over 60 matches from the bench early in his career at Brisbane and quite often took over the dummy half duties when subbed in.

Moving Hunt to hooker would allow coach Wayne Bennett to recall Kodi Nikorima to the halves. Nikorima has played well there so far this season and is set to be Milford's long term partner when Hunt leaves at the end of the season to join the Dragons.

This also allows the club to keep Benji Marshall on the bench in the utility role to either replace any of the trio if injured or to provide some spark to the lineup if needed.

The Broncos could also welcome back winger Corey Oates for their clash against the Gold Coast Titans. The club will name their Round 22 team tomorrow.
