Could the North Queensland Cowboys poach Tom Dearden out of Brisbane?

Touted as the Broncos' long-term No. 7, North Queensland are reportedly set to launch a bid at the 19-year old.

Off-contract at the end of the season, several rival clubs are expected to pursue the youngster.

7 News' Chris Garry reports that the Cowboys are looking to snare the rising half from their crosstown rivals.

"7 News can reveal the Cowboys have told Dearden's management they believe he can be North Queensland's long-term No. 7," Garry reported.

"An offer has not been made but the Cowboys are set to table a competitive deal to the Mackay raised talent."

Dearden has played 17 NRL games for the Broncos since making his first-grade debut in 2019.

Fellow Broncos young gun Xavier Coates, who is also off-contract, is also being pursued by rival clubs, while Andrew McCullough is expected to stay put despite interest from the Dragons.

  1. Question for any other supporters, especially Cowboys supporters.
Looking at some players let get through the net at the Cowboys. Such as : Ponga, Brandon Smith, Kikau, Clifford.
Are Cowboys supporters very angry with this fact? Add in those players alone & that’s Premierships lost.

  2. Cowboys do need a good half but I’d probably say someone more ready to win now.
Deardon is only 19 and yes he’s good but their window for being good is only sorta 5 years max.
You have Morgan, Fedlt, Holmes, Taumalolo, McGuire, McLean these guys are ready to win now. Yes you also have the Hammer, Robson, Hess and whoever else but realistically shouldn’t they be going after Ash Taylor or someone just a little bit older.

Not saying Taylor means they win a premiership but he would be solid in the halves with Morgan and could be apart of a win now team and also apart of their future.

Deardon is probably best staying in Brisbane or stealing Taylor’s spot on the Titans if he was to join the cowboys. Deardon with David Fifita, big Tima, Aj Brimson, Phillip Sami, Mo Fotu that would be a very solid title contending team in a few years
