The Newcastle Knights aren’t about to let Nathan Ross go without a fight.

Ross’ manager, Gavin Orr, confirmed that the in-form outside back has received interest from a Sydney club, understood to be Penrith, and three English Super League franchises and is weighing up his future.

However, the Knights have an option on the second year of the 27-year-old’s contract, and chief executive Matt Gidley told the Newcastle Herald on Friday that they intended to enact that clause and were in “negotiations to extend” his stay beyond 2017.

A cult hero, Ross Dog as he is affectionately known, has been a positive in a difficult season for the Knights.
