The Gold Coast’s backline faces a major shake-up with the arrival of Jarryd Hayne and the likely victims could include William Zillman, Josh Hoffman and David Mead.

Veteran prop Luke Douglas won’t return. Young Brisbane prop Jarrod Wallace has been signed to take his place at the Titans. Former Parramatta rake Nathan Peats’ mortgage on the No 9 jumper is likely to see Daniel Mortimer, Kieran Moseley, and Matt Srama farewelled. Nathan Friend is retiring.

English Test centre Dan Sarginson will join Hayne and Konrad Hurrell at the Titans in 2017.

The challenge facing the Titans is how to manage boom youngsters Nathan Davis, Brian Kelly and John Olive, whose talent and performances have seen them earmarked as “can’t miss” prospects.

  1. For now I’d go with

    1. Hayne
    2. MacDonald
    3. Hoffman
    4. Hurrell
    5. Mead

But next season I’d be looking to offload Zillman, Mead, Olive, Don and Hoffman. As for next season imo their best line up, including players they’ve signed is this-

    1. Jarryd Hayne
    2. Nathan Davis
    3. Dan Sarginson
    4. Konrad Hurrell
    5. Brian Kelly
    6. Kane Elgey
    7. Ashley Taylor
    8. Jarrod Wallace
    9. Nathan Peats
    10. Ryan James
    11. Chris McQueen
    12. Zeb Taia
    13. Greg Bird

    14. Agnatius Paasi
    15. Leivaha Pulu
    16. Jed Cartwright
    17. David Shillington

    • 1. Jarryd Hayne
      2. Anthony Don
      3. Dan Sarginson
      4. Konrad Hurrell
      5. David Mead
      6. Kane Elgey
      7. Ashley Taylor
      8. Jarrod Wallace
      9. Nathan Peats
      10. Ryan James
      11. Chris McQueen
      12. Zeb Taia
      13. Greg Bird

      14. Agnatius Paasi
      15. Leivaha Pulu
      16. Tyrone Roberts
      17. David Shillington

    • He wants to play fullback from all accounts so not sure where you would fit him in with Tommy T.
But in my opinion hes best suited on the wing so if they could convince him of that he would fit in well there

      • Tommy T would stay at FB.
With Lyon retiring and Matai possibly out injured/retired and Snake moving on, Manly should go after Mead to slot into the Centers with Walker as the other Center.

        1. Tommy T
        2. Tafua
        3. Walker
        4. Mead
        5. Wright/Williame
        6. Tyrone Roberts (also pick up from GCT)
        7. DCE

        • Not too keen on your team. Wright is very average and Williame is decent but in the centres only. Also there is no way we will sign Tyrone Roberts. He is crap.

Hopefully we end up like this:

          Tommy
          Taufua
          Walker
          Whare
          Mead
          Green
          DCE

  2. The cleanout begins already, will be hard to retain any off contract stars, Hayne is a great player but will he be worth the trouble? Titan don’t need to go down the same track as the eels with him, Great signing though.

  3. i hear hoffman not happy at titans and is considering an offer from another nrl club .. hoffman wants the #1 spot but henry cant guarantee it as hoffmans been unhappy awhile .. panthers big win over chooks last night still wont be enough to make them the 8 by seasons end .. 7th..8th will be decided between tigers..warriors titans believe that

  4. Titans are shaping up nicely for next year.

The fall out from this will disrupt this year’s top 8 chances but I don’t think that is their focus. They are looking for a longer term reshuffle and a tilt at the title in 17

  5. Going to be sad to see Mead and Hoffman go. Both have been great club men and integral in getting the team to where they are now. Sarginson will be a risk.
Disappointed we re signed Don during the season, I really don’t think he offers that much and is standing in the way of some of the young talent. Jon Olive should be given game time this year on the wing instead of Don, as he is returning from injury in the coming weeks.
Very glad to see the back Mortimer. The only other hooker I would re sign out of that bunch would be Srama but I think Cam Cullen would be a better option, he’s providing a lot of spark and can cover the halfs aswel.
All in all not too worried about this headline as long as we sign up those young player ASAP

    • You might be surprised by Sarginson. He is a gun in Superleague and most importantly he is young. Might not set the NRL alight initially but with proper handling he could be a very good buy.

  6. peaked too early Kefe, first a draw than a comprehensive loss to the Raiders, Sharks losing form at the wrong end of the season

  7. Surely dragons will go after mead or hoffman to shift Dugan to centre..

Not saying I’m a fan of it but seems like it’s what’s going to happen

      • That’s true but they can easily push Aitken to wing. Surely nightingale will retire? How long does he have left on his contract

        • He signed a 2 year contract last year – expires end of 2017.

While Nightingale is not that flash these days there are far more important issues around the 1/2 & 5/8 at Saints.

Until they get sorted the rest is just fodder for lazy journalists….

        • Fair enough.

Definitely agree. Got a feeling we will sign Hastings which wouldn’t be the worst. Marshall needs to retire though.

        • 2017
          -Dugan
          -Dufty
          -Milne
          -Aitken
          -Mann
          -Widdop
          -Hastings
That’s a back line with speed and a look to the future Tom Dragon

  8. eels should go after mead. Am i the only person thats heard of tamalolo coming to the eels? im not joking around i read this yesterday on facebook

    • Parrafan012 why would People area go after Mead they have a F/back in waiting in French and a stand in if needs be in Gutherson.

Parra need a half-back before anything else in the back-line.

Adam Reynolds rumoured for an early release.

Kodi Nikorima if we want to go young and develop a guy

Benji Marshall if we want experience for not big $$$$.

Those 3 are all options before looking like a guy like Mead who we don’t need.

  9. Not a chance mate Jase is very happy at the Cowboys, he accepted a lot less to stay at the Cowboys when the Warriors offered him huge $ so I doubt the Eels have any chance. The Eels are also rumoured to be chasing Peter Parr from the Cowboys who is the football manager and a big reason why the Cowboys have managed to retain JT for so long as the players all love Peter. Sorry Eels but Parr and Jase are going no where.

  10. Parrafan012 I have heard the exact same thing, can’t see it happening with Jason I think they have a chance with parr. Might be in the quit stage of negotiations.

  11. Parr a chance but taumalolo no chance.
Parr is reported to have a problem with the new CEO of the cowgirls and have had a fair few disagreements. In most cases, the CEO wins out, which means that Parr will either have to put up or move on.

  12. Zerotackle won’t post comments with G a y typed in them don’t say that word in any context fark this political correctness bs off it hey zerotackle fark you you h o m o s pack of useless c a r n t s. S u c k m y d i c k goodbye all you keyboard warrior f a g g o t s.

  13. Roberts will end up either at the dragons or back with Knights.
    Mead at parramatta
    Green at manly
    Hoffman at dragons
    Mann at storm
    Marshall retirement

    • Manly need Green should be able to afford two decent outside backs with Matai, Lyon and hopefully snake moving on.
Whare and Mead would be very handy. I think we could afford:
      Turbo
      Taufua
      Walker
      Whare
      Mead
      Green
      DCE

I think that is a pretty solid backline.

  14. Oh for gods sake. You’re talking the piss right? Problem is our recruitment is is so pitiful at the moment I’d probably believe that

    • The Mole on Twitter said his manager was talking to the dragons and it was also mentioned on the market watch podcast.
