Knights coach Nathan Brown has not ruled out another belated signing before Newcastle’s 2016 campaign kicks off.

Newcastle’s newest recruit, former Parramatta forward Pauli Pauli, trained with the club for the first time on Saturday after accepting a two-year deal.

Knights officials had identified a heavyweight forward as their priority, but Brown has also expressed interest in bolstering his squad with an additional utility back.

The likely retirement of James McManus, who has not trained during the pre-season after suffering a serious concussion six months ago, could free up funds for an 11th-hour bargain buy.

Asked if the recruitment of Pauli had finalised Newcastle’s roster this season, Brown replied: “He's our last at the minute, [but] that could change down the track, maybe ... things could change, as the weeks go on.''
