Cronulla Sharks v North Queensland Cowboys

Southern Cross Group Stadium, Thursday Night

Two heavyweights of the competition open round 11 in a blockbuster on Thursday night.

Despite sitting second on the ladder with a 7-3 record, the Sharks will be out to give their home fans some joy having lost three of their first four games at Shark Park in 2017.

After a pair of unconvincing wins over the Dragons and Tigers, the reigning premiers will welcome the return of prop Chris Heighington to take on the recently re-signed John Asiata in the middle of the park.

The Cowboys scored an impressive win last week over the Bulldogs with the return of Lachlan Coote and Jake Granville giving them a much-needed boost. Undoubtedly, the battle of the bigs will decide much of the game, with Jason Taumalolo, Ethan Low and Gavin Cooper needing to quieten the influence of Paul Gallen, Wade Graham and Andrew Fifita if they're to have a chance at breaking down Cronulla's stingy defence.

Cronulla are strong favourites heading into this match up but with the Cowboys riding a wave of confidence without JT, we'll back them to sneak over the line and continue the Sharks' poor home run.

New Zealand Warriors v St George Illawarra Dragons

FMG Stadium, Friday Night

After last week's catastrophic collapse, the only way is up for these Warriors, isn't it?

After blowing a 28-6 lead to the Panthers, there's no doubting they'll want to put those demons behind them, however, they'll have to defy history after having lost 20 of their 25 meetings with the Dragons.

They do come up against a wounded Dragons, however, without superstars Josh Dugan and Gareth Widdop, which may mean it's the best time to forget last week's debacle against a side that's lost three in a row since sitting atop of the NRL ladder.

Keiran Foran's first half work was exemplary and he will look to build on that against rookie play-maker Kurt Mann, who coach Paul McGregor has decided to stick with in the halves.

The Dragons need a win to avoid slipping further down the ladder ahead of the Origin period, where they'll likely miss the services of their in-form prop Paul Vaughan.

Their ability to score points coupled with the Warriors streaky defence will give them confidence, however, it's tough to see them adding to their 80% win rate against their trans-Tasman opponents.

Brisbane Broncos v Wests Tigers

Suncorp Stadium, Friday Night

The Broncos charged home to victory last weekend after trailing 14-0 inside 10 minutes as they registered their fifth consecutive win to sit just two points off the top spot on the NRL ladder.

This week, they come up against a Tigers side who were disappointing last week and will be without Mitchell Moses in the halves, after he was finally granted a release to Parramatta earlier this week.

The Tigers have won four out of their 10 at Suncorp Stadium, including a 19-18 win last season, a reasonably impressive record against the league heavyweights.

It's time for Luke Brooks to officially lead this team, with fellow members of the 'Big Four' either gone or going, Brooks must take the reigns. He'll be paired with Jack Littlejohn in the halves this weekend against an exciting and unpredictable duo of Anthony Milford and Kodi Nikorima.

James Roberts returns to bolster the Broncos side in a game which the Broncos should win comfortably.

However, they will want a more complete performance than the one they showed last week.

Gold Coast Titans v Manly Sea Eagles

Cbus Super Stadium, Saturday Night

The Trbojevic brothers are no more - at least for a little while - after Tom went down last weekend with an ankle injury in their loss against Brisbane.

The Titans, meanwhile, stunned the NRL world with a thrilling come-from-behind win over the ladder-leading Storm, with Konrad Hurrell and Anthony Don the stars in the victory.

This Titans side has shown plenty of fight and heart this season despite their long injury list, and it's a trait that'll make their fans proud.

They'll have their work cut out for them against Daly Cherry-Evans and co this week, however, they do enter the match as favourites.

Matthew Wright replaces the younger Trbojevic in the number one jersey while Karl Lawton and Nathaniel Peteru return on the bench for the Titans.

This has all the makings of an offensive showcase with the league's first and third most prolific offences on show on Saturday night.

The Titans took out their last contest with a 30-10 score line, and we can see them making it two on the trot against the Sea Eagles.

Parramatta Eels v Canberra Raiders

ANZ Stadium, Saturday Night

Mitchell Moses has been the talk of the town for, well, for much of the season and we wait until Saturday night to see whether he'll turn out for his new club.

In more positive news for the Eels, Bevan French returns for his first game in what seems like forever in a boost for the side who will need to be on top of their game as the Raiders will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing loss to the Knights last week.

Three losses on the trot for the 'Green Machine' means Ricky Stewart needs to find something to dig his side out of their 4-6 rut. They do sit just one win out of the top eight, but we all know what this side is capable of.

Joey Leilua and Jordan Rapana need to recapture their earlier season form, while they will welcome the return of Josh Papalii, who has missed their last two games through a club-imposed suspension.

Corey Norman's injury has no doubt hurt the Eels, and with the Raiders having scored at least 28 points in four of their last five meetings, we can see them bouncing back in emphatic fashion.

Raiders by 12.

Newcastle Knights v Penrith Panthers

McDonald Jones Stadium, Sunday Afternoon

For only the second time in 2017, the Knights come into a game on the back of a win after their stunning win over the Raiders last week.

Somehow, that was topped by their opponents this week, as the Panthers came back from 22 points down to reel in the Warriors in a display that was reminiscent of their 2016 self.

Was it the kick-starter the Panthers need to get their 2017 going? At 3-7, it could be their last chance.

They'll be without James Fisher-Harris this week with Corey Harawira-Naera slotting into the starting side as Tyrone Peachey remains on the bench.

Matt Moylan coming up against Dane Gagai at the back promises to be an exciting match up to keep your eyes on and while it'd be great for Knights fans to see their side surpass their 2016 win total so early in 2017, if the Panthers are serious about charging up the ladder and giving themselves a chance to deliver on their potential, they'll win this one with ease.

Panthers by 10.

Canterbury Bulldogs v Sydney Roosters

ANZ Stadium, Sunday Afternoon

These two sides come into this clash following contrasting games last week.

The Dogs were convincingly beaten by the Cowboys as the Roosters put the Eels to the sword early and never looked back.

The biggest issue all season long for the Bulldogs was in the halves and that remains true as they were completely outplayed by an undermanned Cowboys side last week. It won't get any easier for them this week as they come up against one of the most in-form combinations in the league, in Mitchell Pearce and Luke Keary.

The pair has six tries and 20 try assists between them, as well as remaining one of the best defensive sides in the competition.

The Roosters have attacking weapons all over the park, with Latrell Mitchell making a successful return to the senior side.

Rightly so, the Roosters are comfortable favourites with the bookies as their hunt for the top spot on the ladder continues as the Origin period draws closer, as they are among a host of top teams looking to churn out victories before losing their star players.

A Des Hasler-coached side always bounces back in strong fashion after a poor performance, however, this one might be a little more than they can chew off.

South Sydney Rabbitohs v Melbourne Storm

NIB Stadium, Sunday Night

The NRL heads west once more as the Rabbitohs, fresh off a strong win against the Tigers take on the top of the table Storm, looking to return to the winners list following an uncharacteristically poor defensive performance last week.

Coach Michael Maguire shuffled his lineup in a major way last week - Cody Walker to fullback, Alex Johnston to the wing opposite Aaron Gray, John Sutton to five-eighth - and it paid dividends as the Rabbits chalked up an easy 28-8 win. This week, however, they'll face a different challenge, in a form of a Melbourne side hell-bent on writing their defensive wrongs from last week which saw them concede an almost unprecedented 38 points, a figure which prompted Craig Bellamy to call it their worse defensive performance under him.

On the flip side, they scored 36 points - the equal-most ever for a losing side - with their Big Three firing on all cylinders.

Tohu Harris returned and was very impressive for someone who has missed a considerable amount of time, as they expect to go into this week unchanged.

The men in purple have won 22 out of the sides 26 meetings, and we see that winning record continuing this Sunday.
