Robbie Farah has been struck another blow in his bid to see out his contract at the Wests Tigers after Matt Ballin signed a two year deal with the club.

Manly’s two-time premiership winning hooker has been on the outer since it first became clear Trent Barrett was taking over in 2016, with two young hookers Apisai Koroisau and Matt Parcell joining the club in recent months.

The Sea Eagles are yet to announce Ballin’s departure and the Tigers have not confirmed Ballin’s arrival, however a source close to the Manly rake told Fox Sports News a two-year deal had been struck to get the 31-year-old to Concord.

Ballin ruptured his ACL in round 24 against Parramatta and will be up against it to return from the serious injury by round one in 2016.

      • @holmsey43 you are always singing the praises of new signings for Manly and very quick to dump on anyone that leaves, what’s your problem?

I don’t give a rat’s about any team other than Souths, but I don’t dump on players that leave. All teams do it. Chill out. When you first come on this site you used to talk good sense, now I’m not so sure.

  1. You will be missed Matty, Manly legend and always will be. Will be remembered for being part of Manly’s 2008 40-0 thrashing and 2011 grand final win. IMO Matt Ballin was one of our key players because of his defence and his accurate passing to our players.

  4. Were gonna miss u matty very proud of the board getting players past there best Watmough, Stewart and Ballin gone, a good club keeps moving forward. Koroisau will fill the void well IMO and will be a great buy and in contention for hooker of the year.

  5. Manly legend. .. manly supporters baggging on him should feel ashamed. Didnt play bad in his last year at all. Was never the flashy looking hooker but done all the hard work because they whole team underperformed in 2015 certainly wasnt his fault. Remebered for toughness and winning 2 grand finals scoring 1st try in one of them. Manly lagend and showed by usually last one off the field after seeing the crowd at brookie each week……

  6. Thanks for everything matty. You are a manly legend and will always be one, sad to see you go but I guess a new era is beginning and let’s hope it’s a great one

  7. I wonder how much of his contract is covered by manly.
I know a lot of manly fans are saying this is great but do you actually realise that you have lost a highly experienced hooker who is a very good defender and replaced him with one hooker who has very little first grade experience and another hooker who is a pretty average defender?

    • Koroisau is a great defender and has played in a grand final, Ballin missed a lot of tackles this year so accept for experience we aren’t losing anything but instead gaining things, Koroisau has the ability to put a massive shot on a big forward, he also defends as good as Ballin and has a running game something Ballin did not have. Parcell is also a future star, he will have great impact off the bench bit like kodi Nikorima accept I expect him to play more minutes 20-30 a game. We are looking great for next year and Koroisau and cook will battle for hooker of the year IMO.

      • Cook and api go ok but seriously they have at least four other hookers in front of them that will be inline for hooker of the year.

        • Just because they’ve only played a couple of games? Who would’ve thought Granville would have been as good as he was this year those 2 are due for big year

        • Not saying they aren’t due for a big year holmsey but realistically Smith, Luke, Granville, Mccullough, Farrah (when fit), Peats (when fit) and Friend are all ahead of Cook and Api.
Maybe in a year or two those two will be at the top of the tree but they are a fair way off now.
Of course like you this is just my opinion.

  8. Have not seen so many big name changes in a yr from clubs before, there’s going to be some different looking teams next yr, great pick up for the Tigers, but little forwards so he won’t make a big impact.

  9. I was living in Perth for a year and was at the game in 2012 against the Warriors at Subicao with the comeback…the next day i was at the airport seeing off my partner when the team arrived to board the flight and i kid you not Matty Ballin was the only one who came up to me and started chatting to me…a true club man and legend!!

    • What have a said that was bad? That he played shit this year, we’ll he did he only played good once the talk of him leaving started he needs to perform week in week out, I’m going to miss him for sure he gave our club a good reputation a true clubman, and always will be a manly legend but he is passed his best days, would have him still in the team teaching Koroisau and Parcell some tricks good luck to him

      • Mate is your team even manly or are you just some troller, because Ballin may not be as good as Api, but you cant say he played shit this year, he played alright not he’s best performance but when almost a whole team is off there game its gonna effect others play, and you say that he only played well when the “talk of him leaving” step in, mate the whole team actually played good than and you saw when ballin when off at the eels game we played shit against the eels and roosters just shows how shit he is aye? he is a key players respect him, he wanted to be at manly more than any other club out there true club legend

  10. Thanks for the services Matty. Truly one of the good guys. But Farrah is a far better player.

If Ballin starts and Farrah comes off the bench i’ll eat my hat!

    • Cherrington will come off the bench not Robbie. Safe to say Robbie will be in NSW cup or at another club.

Very smart play from JT. Ballin will tighten up the defence in the opening stages then Cherrington will be injected into the game with his explosiveness.

  11. Good luck matty. You and killer were my favorite seaeagles. You should have been given the chance to end your career, in couple of years wearing a manly jersey.

  12. I am going to miss Matty Ballin. He us a great guy both on and off the field and doesn’t deserve to be treated yhe eay he has been by Manly.

  13. I still reckon he is worth half a game at manly, especially after they just resigned him. But loyalty is dead. 4 grand finals, 2 wins, (better than cam smith), one bad year for the whole team and your out the door. But you do need speed out of dummy half and ballin doesnt have this. Holmsey is right, its a new era, its time to move on. But im a loyal guy and i would of had him in the no 9 jersey next year

    • Times are changing in rugby league especially manly, we need to start building our spine for the next 10 years or more.

      Trbojevic

      Wright

      DCE

      Koroisau

Those 4 players are our future, these 4 all have massive futures we need to keep them together for years to come, along with Jake Trbojevic, knight and Taupau we have something to build a dynasty around, we can’t afford to let senior players get in the way or we will lose this massive future we have.

  14. He’s a good hard worker for any team to pick up, but offers f-all in attack, when was the last time he scored a try? I mean he’s a workhorse, fit and gives time for the fans.

  15. A true Manly supporter knows very well that Matty Ballin is the last one in the sheds after a game at Brookie. He talks to the kids high fives them and even has photos. What a legend! All the best Matty-Maroon & White to the core.

  16. Is this even confirmed? Just another rumour? Sources close to whoever say it is a done deal… we hear that every day on this site. I just want to know, is it done or not? Because sometimes with players (like Taupau for example) can be confirmed going to a few clubs (Manly, Raiders…) before it gets straightened out.

Depends on which halves play to their potential first. Egely/Taylor vs Moses/Brooks as to who gets the Wooden Spoon. Really think Woods will be carrying his team. Get rid of Farah too, if he won’t go start him and drop Ballin to NSW Cup Farah makes 40+ tackles and still makes metres and reads the game great just not on the right money here.

  18. Thanks for everything ballin your a true manly legend. 2 premierships great memories. All the best see you at brookie
