Wests Tigers are pleased to confirm the re-signing of utility Dene Halatau on a one-year deal, and also the addition of hooker Matt Ballin from Manly-Warringah.

The pair boast more than 400 first-grade games between them, strengthening the level of experience within the Club’s playing roster for the 2016 season.

Halatau has played a total of 226 NRL matches since making his debut in 2003, with 157 appearances for Wests Tigers over two separate stints.

The Merrylands and North Ryde junior spent four seasons with the Bulldogs (2010-13), before returning to Wests Tigers in 2014.

Ballin, 31, made his NRL debut for Manly-Warringah in 2007 and has played 217 first grade games over nine seasons.

  1. Sad too see you go matty, you’ve been a true legend for the club. Hard work and dedication blood sweat and tears and we all say thank you. But like I said before a new era at manly is beginning and let’s hope it’s a good one.

  2. Wow,how much more we gonna lose, love you matty, take care in the tigers, thanks for the great service for the club.

  3. Fast hookers is the way the game is played now days manly were right to sack ballin

What I don’t get is Taylor doesn’t want Farah yet they sign a hooker who is worse than him???

  4. I’m assuming farah’s ego clashes with the new big boss!
    Toxic mess.

Ballin is a champion! And a team player..
Workaholic only had his first sick day last year! 169 games straight if I remember correct.
    I would hire post NRL.
Any team would benifit from someone like that around.

  5. Why Farah is sticking his boots in is beyond me, almost childish, I get he loves his club, and I get he has to be payed, but if there is rubbish going on it will affect the whole team, off and on the field, Matty will at least stay out of the rubbish side of things, so everyone a favour Robbie, and move on, England would be great!

  6. Sometimes you need to bite your tongue! And move on.
He would have been the smarter man in the end.
My prediction is that the Tigers will have another poor season, probably the spoon.
    And JT will be flicked.
So who has the last laugh then?

    11. Dene Halatau
    12. Michael Chee-Kam
    13. Mania Cherrington

    14. McConahhie (incorrect spelling)
    15. Joel Edwards
    16. Jesse Pharahi (Incorrect spelling)
    17. Kyle Lovett

Won’t be there starting team but they need to try something different to challenge for the 8.

    • Cherrington at lock, I’d put him on the bench and let him come on to run the opposition raggard with 15 to go each half. When he comes on, move Ballin to second row (or lock) to give someone else a spell, because I see Ballin as a very good buy for us. Will give us the experience, determination and common sense that we have been lacking.

I still think Robbie will be elsewhere. Knights perhaps?

  8. As a Manly fan, it has been a disgrace how a lot of the departed players and staff have been treated, particularly Matt Ballin. In April this year, Matt had no hesitation in re-signing with Manly…he wanted to repay the faith the club or more importantly Des Hasler put in him by giving him a start…..Matt is such a wonderful player, but more than that he is a man of great character and quality…

the way Bozo has gone through the club, I feel it will set off trends unseen at the club…possibly in a negative way…talk about jobs for the boys..why has Bozo put his two sons into roles at the club…I bet if they fail, they won’t get punted…Peter Peters…do Manly fans a favour…please walk away…you are a fossil…

lastly, to Matt Ballin, all the best at the Tigers…like a lot of Manly fans, you have provided us with many great memories of your performances…its a shame that the club knew they were going to get rid of you…the least they could have done is give you a great farewell at Brookie back in round 26…

  9. Experience Yes. But I suppose some wines and scotch’s get better with age if that is the Tigers thinking.
Ballin for Taupau who was already under paid by the Tigers. Manly 1 Tigers 0. Full Time!

  10. I must say in defence of the Tigers is that Tedesco is my favourite player and fullback in the NRL ATM.
I would sign him as one of my Top 3 players in the comp in a heartbeat. I would move Dugan to accommodate him. His last line low tackling defence is an example set for all to see and as an attacker is now quicker than the experienced Stewart / Slater / Inglis mould and for mind is better as now aging. He has screamin origin potential No. 1 coming out of his ying yang. Injury can only now be his last hurdle. Oh I forget Jarryd Hayne when he comes back to the Roosters may be the other hurdle.
