Joining SBW playing Japanese rugby

New Zealand Warriors rookie back Omar Slaimankhel will quit the NRL after reportedly signing a two-year contract worth more than $600,000 with a Japanese rugby club.

According to Sydney’s Daily Telegraph newspaper, Slaimankel turned down offers from several NRL clubs to take up the big-money contract after just five NRL first-grade games since debuting in the Warriors’ 19-20 loss to the Sharks in Round 15.

Rumours began circling at that time that Slaimankhel’s signature was sought by the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Cronulla Sharks, as well as interest from Super Rugby franchise Melbourne Rebels.

His decision had been a difficult one, with Slaimankhel telling the Telegraph that the huge money offer was too good to pass up.
