Wests Tigers have officially signed former Bulldog Matt Utai to a one-year deal.
Following his impressive trial form, Tigers officials have agreed to give the 29-year-old a life-line which is understood to be largely incentive based.
Wests Tigers assistant coach Peter Gentle confirmed the winger/centres deal on Tuesday at the launch of the foundation cup where his sides will face the Sydney Roosters at the SFS on Saturday.
“He’s done everything right on and off the field since he joined the squad,” he announced.
“He’s just put pen to paper on a 12 months contract.”
The New Zealander spent 2010 playing park football for the Auburn Warriors, where he captain-coached approached the club in search of a deal.
It’s understood Utai’s former first grade coach at the Bulldogs Steve Folkes, the strength and conditioning coach for the Tigers, aided in brokering the deal to have him train with the club.
