The Gold Coast Titans have re-signed local product Kane Elgey for the 2017-18 seasons, securing the halfback’s future while he sits out the current season with a serious knee injury.

The Palm Beach Currumbin high school and Tugun Seahawks product said he was relieved that he has had his immediate future decided early and will continue to work hard on his rehabilitation.

“I’m really happy to have my future decided at such an early stage of this season, and know it is here on the Gold Coast,” the 22-year-old said today.

“I can now fully focus on my rehabilitation with my knee with negotiations out of the way.

“I always wanted to stay on the Gold Coast with the Titans. I’m a proud local junior, this is the club that gave me my first opportunity in NRL and I’m keen to repay coach Neil Henry and the club for that.

“It’s an exciting time for the club and I want to play a role in bringing the Titans and the Gold Coast success. We have a lot of good young players and good mix of senior players around us.

“I have a lot of faith in the future of the Titans and in return I appreciate the faith Neil and the club have shown in me after unfortunately suffering a serious knee injury.

“And I also want to repay the Titans fans who have been really supportive last season and since I suffered the injury early this year.”

  1. Well done Titans. A base to build a strong team around. I hope he recovers soon and the rest of his career is injury free.

  2. They need a gun FB and Hooker to help out Ash Taylor and Elgey and they can build a really good team around that spine. Should go all out for Munster

    • Agreed – throw the book at Munster and a decent cheque to Parcell.
Not that i want Parcell to leave Manly but if Manly are going to stupidly play Korosiau over Parcell then he should go where he can get good game time.

    • Don’t forget Knights won first 4 games last year & collected the spoon while Cowboys lost first 3 games & collected the trophy. To win the comp you now have to start the season off slow to save your energy for the backhalf & finals.

  3. Is Elgey really that good that you would sign him up long term especially when he is already out for this season?
Only asking as I haven’t seen him play much.

    • Yeah, it is a bit difficult to tell to be honest, he has shown a lot of promise, he did win the NYC player of the year despite the U20 titans coming last in the competition. I think if he recovers from the injury and has the right playing the group around him, he can become a shining light for the titans. He takes the line on incredibly well, and for his age, he has great vision, however he just needs to work on his kicking game.

  4. Well done Titans beat a lot of clubs to his signature him and Ashley Taylor can lead Titans in to the future

  5. Good bit of business for the Titan. I would have preferred to see the Titans go after Corey Norman for 2017 but Elgey is certainly a promising young Queensland half.

  6. Would love to see the Titans target their future recruiting efforts at more Queenslanders. Shillington, Friend and McQueen are a great start. Tom Opacic, Brenko Lee, Marmin Barba, Jason Bukuya might be reasonably priced and promising targets?

  7. Great teams are often built around two young halves and Taylor and Elgey have real quality to their game.

I hope this this season will be looked at as a turning point for the Titans. Making the finals will be a stretch but they are a team on the way up.

this is how i would line up the titans. Get rid of roberts or keep him as depth and bring the young players through, liking the turn around for the titans.
