John Cartwright
Staying on the Gold Coast

Gold Coast Titans mentor John Cartwright is here to stay according to club boss Michael Searle, saying it is only a matter of time before the off-contract head coach inks a new deal.

The foundation Gold Coast coach, who is considered one of the brightest coaching prospects in the NRL, would attract significant interest if he chose test the waters in the open market.

His reputation has steadily increased after guiding the Titans to consecutive top-four finishes and breaking into representative coaching ranks as a former assistant with both the NSW Blues and Test sides. He is also now the coach of NSW City Origin.

But while the club is yet to enter into negotiations with Cartwright, Searle is confident that the parties will come to a new arrangement.

“He doesn’t want to go anywhere and we don’t want anyone else coming here,” Searle said.

“He is the man for us. We will sit down and have a barbecue and probably sort something out.”

The 45-year-old Cartwright has previously expressed a desire to be a one-club coach.
