The Wests Tigers have made direct contact with Canberra to quash speculation they’re looking to poach Raiders star Josh Dugan.
The Canberra Times has learned Tigers boss Stephen Humphreys emailed the Raiders this week to reassure them they’re not plotting a play for the star fullback.
Suspicions arose the Tigers were interested in Dugan off contract with Canberra after next year after utility Tim Moltzen signed with St George Illawarra last week.
But tired of the innuendo in the media, Humphreys informed the Raiders they have not spoken with Dugan.
Canberra’s focus will now switch to locking away outside backs Jarrod Croker and Blake Ferguson, who come off contract at the end of next year.
Raiders boss Don Furner said both players had indicated they were keen to stay, and he hoped an agreement would be reached in the next couple of weeks.
”Both Crokes and Fergo have indicated they want to proceed with extension talks, we’re down the track there,” Furner said.
Contract talks with Dugan were put on hold during the Origin period.
When discussions resume is up to the 21-year-old’s management to decide.
