Sam Thaiday
Bronco until 2015

Sam Thaiday has been named the club captain of the Brisbane Broncos for the 2012 season on the day he has committed himself to a long-term deal.

Thaiday will be seen in a Bronco jersey until at least 2015 after agreeing to a new three-year extension of his contract.

And he will be doing it with the ‘c’ next to his name after it was announced Thaiday would take over the captaincy role from the retiring Darren Lockyer.

Broncos’ head coach Anthony Griffin said Thaiday had all the qualities the Broncos were looking for in a new leader to take them forward.

“Sam is going to lead our club into a new era,” said Griffin

“He has great leadership skills both on and off the field, and over the last 12 months has really grown as a person and a player.

“We are in a very fortunate position here at the Broncos in that we will have a lot of senior players in our group with great leadership qualities.

“Guys like Corey Parker, Alex Glenn, Petero Civoniceva and Justin Hodges will support Sam next year and will give our club strong leadership.”

Thaiday said he was extremely honoured to be annointed by the club as he secured his long-term future with the Broncos.

“I am very proud and honoured to be staying on with the Broncos,” he said.
